What Is Weight-Inclusive Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)?

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is the use of evidence-based practice to manage and sometimes prevent chronic conditions through individualized, strategic nutrition plans.

Through in-depth nutritional diagnostic, therapeutic, and counseling services, including the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of all interventions, the goal of MNT is to "move the individual along the continuum of disease management toward better nutritional health and overall well being." (Krause, 2012)

MNT is often ordered and approved by your primary care physician or other health care provider, and is then performed by a Registered Dietitian. Depending on your individual insurance, you may or may not need a physician referral to seek MNT.

Sounds a little clinical, right? Our goal at On the Brink Nutrition Collective is to make MNT more personal and weight-inclusive.

We promise to provide care that:

  • takes into consideration all the factors that effect health.

  • doesn’t promote energy or food restriction, endorse unsustainable exercise, or encourage disordered eating as a way to “get healthy.”

  • explores weight-inclusive nutrition considerations for caring for a variety of health conditions.

Our associates will help you focus on what matters in your life, without harping on weight!

We start our sessions where you are today and work together to find a realistic and sustainable way for you to feel better. You won't feel like you're in your doctor's office - I promise.

We know how to offer medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for any disease without prescribing weight loss. Weight-inclusive MNT provides patients the care that they deserve. This is an approach to care that supports clients to feel safe to ask questions, lays the groundwork for undoing aloneness, and helps clients realize they deserve a quality of care they may not have had access to in the past.

Weight-inclusive MNT acknowledges the physiological and psychological trauma people in larger bodies have experienced, often at the hands of healthcare providers.
